Background: Falanghina is believed to be an ancient variety that originated from Greece. The name of the variety is said to be derived from the Latin Falangae, which means the wooden stake used to support the vines. This variety is mainly planted in Campania, Italy, and is an important local white grape variety. Sannio is one of the main legal production areas.Sannio, located in the hilly area north of Naples, received DOC in 1997, but Falanghina del Sannio was not certified until 2010.
